South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking an Associate Dean and Director of the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine, and Associate Professor or Professor. Rank is contingent on support and approval of the College Tenure & Promotion Committee, University Tenure & Promotion Committee, the South Dakota Board of Regents’ Chief Academic Officer, and the South Dakota Board of Regents. This is a new position where you'll lead a dynamic and collaborative program focused on shaping future veterinary professionals. This role combines leadership with hands-on teaching, allowing you to supervise and guide the program while sharing your expertise by developing and teaching courses. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
The mission of the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine (PPVM) is to strengthen South Dakota's rural economy and regional agricultural systems by educating future veterinarians and scientists to serve the region. The program is made possible through a formal cooperative agreement, in which SDSU students admitted into the Professional Program complete the first two years of their veterinary medical education at South Dakota State University and then transfer to the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine (UMN CVM) for the final two years of study.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Associate Dean and Director is responsible for supervision, coordination, and communication for the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine, developing and teaching specific courses within their area of expertise for the program, and ensuring that all required courses are delivered by teaching other courses when needed.
SALARY RANGE:
The starting salary is $200,000 commensurate with education and/or experience. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 6% matching, 10 hours of annual leave each month, 9.34 hours of sick leave each month, and eleven paid holidays. Relocation benefits are available per the university’s guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree;
Advanced degree (MS or PhD) or Board Certification;
At least 10 years of experience in administration or teaching within a veterinary or medical related department, college or university;
Eligible for rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the SDSU Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences;
Effective written and verbal communication skills;
Effective interpersonal skills; and
Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A strong knowledge of agriculture and food animal production systems with experience in:
Developing policies, procedures, reporting, and tracking of information;
Leadership and supervising Faculty;
Teaching veterinarians, veterinary students, or medical students and the development of medically related curriculum;
Public relations which could include website development and other communication venues for the general public;
Obtaining extramural funding through grants and fundraising; and
Writing broadly collaborative grants and publications.
