Privately owned, loads of mentorship, 7 doctor team with amazing support staff! Mesa Veterinary Clinic (MVC) is located in Pueblo which is 45 minutes south of Colorado Springs and has had exceptional growth (170,000 population) but still a "small, big town" type of feel while having lower cost of living than many other Colorado cities. Our practice opened in 1978 and has continued to evolve and provide a high standard of care as the area changed and our population grew. We are one of the only multi-doctor mixed animal practices still operating in our area. Pueblo has a beautiful riverwalk, large reservoir with great bike trails and hiking, many new businesses and schools, only short distance from the mountains, ski resorts, big city life and much more. It has a more mild winter so you can enjoy sunshine and outdoor activities year round!
We'd love to learn more about anyone interested in coming to our unique clinic in a beautiful area of Colorado! We are flexible with schedule and types of cases you prefer; small animal only, large animal only, no surgery, true mix of everything, part-time; we have the need in our community for all veterinary services so we can find what works best for you. We will pay for travel and lodging to come meet the team and see the practice in person. We also love having students come for externs or interns so feel free to contact us regarding those opportunities. Please send emails to tiffanyjb21@gmail.com
Practice Highlights!
6 highly experienced and team orientated doctors. Drs. Joseph Barker (CSU'94, co-owner), Matthew Braunschmidt (ISU '03), Tiffany Barr (CSU '08, co-owner), James Fitzgerald (CSU '12), Rachel D'Andrea (ISU '22), Leah Metzger (KSU '22) and 2 part-time relief doctors with years of experience that are phenomenal mentors and help cover our caseload for PT
Small animal - doctors have one full day per week of surgery and dentals, we have certified vet techs in these positions and always other doctors in the building to get help. We do some orthopedic fracture repairs and extracapsular stifle stability surgeries for those cases that can not afford an orthopedic specialist and they are willing to mentor other DVMs in orthopedic surgeries if there is interest. We have a full in-house Idexx laboratory for bloodwork and urinalysis, digital radiology (including dental radiology), ultrasound and great anesthetic monitoring equipment and supportive care. We also work closely with amazing referral specialists, one travels to us on Wednesdays for internal medicine cases and specific chest or abdominal ultrasounds/echos. We encourage DVMs to find what they like and pursue specific things to help foster their passions and the community and practice benefit in return. We also have one DVM currently providing acupuncture and we are soon adding laser therapy.
Although our caseload is largely small animal overall, we still are the only haul in facility for large animal and we have the clients to provide each doctor with one full large animal day per week if desired. We have 4 doctors that are mixed animal and the other 3 are small animal only. By numbers, 80% of our patients last year were small animal/exotic/poultry, we still saw over 500 cattle appointments/emergencies and similar with horses. We do not have many dairy cattle and most horses are backyard pets, 4-H, ranch, rodeo or working horses.
Large animal - Primarily haul-in and no overnight on call after 7:30pm! This allows for better safety, efficiency, support staff, and mentoring veterinarians available for collaboration. Easy handling facility (round pen that feeds into indoor stocks and/or a hydraulic chute, and multiple pens). We also have 2 vet trucks for outcalls if schedule allows. Our full-time veterinarians work 4 days a week with different shifts available 7 days a week. We no longer offer traditional 24-hour on call services but could facilitate an overnight shift if doctors preferred a night shift.
Proud to have 12 registered veterinary technicians, an experienced practice manager, inventory manager, facility caretaker/handyman, 5 full-time receptionists, and multiple veterinary assistants. We are not a practice that gets rid of or limits the amount of support staff to increase profits. We value each of our individual staff members and they help create new protocols, purchase of equipment, building updates and more. We recognize that our profession is very challenging but the people we work with can make all the difference in our ability to provide quality service to our patients and our own mental health. We are committed to hiring the right people and doing everything we can to keep good people, not just filling shifts.
Not only do we offer a positive work environment, we have an impressive benefit package. A competitive salary with the opportunity for growth, fully paid medical, dental and vision coverage, a profit sharing retirement plan that we contribute to without employee contribution, fully paid professional insurances through AVMA, DEA and Colorado license, annual AVMA and CVMA memberships, PTO, uniform, CE allowances, VIN, AI scribe if preferred, moving allowance that can be paid when contract is signed.
