Veterinary Assistant or Technician

Pamlico Animal Hospital in Washington, NC is seeking an experienced and compassionate Veterinary Assistant/Technician to join our team.  Washington, NC is a beautiful historic town on the Pamlico River, close to the best beaches in NC and thirty minutes from the growing city of Greenville.  At least 2 years of experience is preferred.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Surgery – preparation and assisting, monitoring of anesthesia, recovery of patients.
• Technical – venipuncture, IV catheter placement, administration of medications and vaccines (IV, SQ, IV), proper holding technique and restraint of animals.
• Radiology – assist in taking radiographs.
• Exam Rooms - Physical examinations and patient assessment, patient histories, client education.
• Patient Care - Treatments for hospitalized patients, administration of IV fluids.
• Laboratory - Operation of Idexx lab equipment, fecals, cytologies
• Pharmacy - Knowledge of medications, heartworm, flea and tick prevention.  Properly fill prescriptions and dispense medications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Compassion towards animals
• Flexibility in hours including but not limited to evenings, weekends and holidays
• Excellent Customer Service and Communication skills
• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
• Working knowledge of computers, experience with Cornerstone PMS a plus
• Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments
• This a Day Shift position
